The holiday seasons, especially Thanksgiving, are are all about giving back. St. Thomas Aquinas High School (STA) brings this idea to life with the annual tradition of the Senior Thanksgiving Basket Drive. Every year, the STA seniors unite as a family to assemble and deliver Thanksgiving baskets filled with seasonal essentials, as well as some extra goodies, for less fortunate families. Carrying on this tradition, this year the STA seniors attended a mass on Wednesday, November 25, where all of the baskets were blessed by Father Sullivan. All participating seniors packed the baskets into their cars and left campus early to deliver them to the families.
At the start of the week, the students brought items into school to put into their baskets, working quickly to ensure that they would be ready by the end of the day on Tuesday. Participant Paul Calzada said, “Not too many times do we get to step outside of our circle to help others.” This statement reflects what has become more of a common trend in our fast paced society, so it’s truly important for the STA community to take advantage of these selfless opportunities.
