October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and once again Saint Thomas Aquinas (STA) students are showing their support. On October 18, 2016, STA took on Archbishop McCarthy, and other high schools, at Sawgrass Lanes. The Raider bowling team wore pink shirts, on this occasion, to show their support for the cause. The team, coached by Mr. Salazar, is made up of Alex Mohr, Ander Gorricho, Jacob Holste-Evans, Michael Ballard, Robert Petruska, and Joseph Chiaverini. This was an enthusiastic show of support by this group of kids, proving the level of care and pride at STA.

The competition against McCarthy was very tough. The first game was very tight throughout and resulted in a 673 tie. After the conclusion of the three games, STA ended up with 1,363 points to 1,356 for McCarthy. Coach Salazar said that he loves having the opportunity to get to know his students, “… away from academic responsibilities and [he] can help by giving them more strength, determination, team work experience, friendship, understanding, and decision-making …” skills that will serve them throughout their lives. He also added, “We do not always win, but we have so much fun!”
