Tackling Midterms

image (3)Once again it is the time of the year that everyone dreads: midterm week. At Saint Thomas Aquinas (STA) midterms will be held on December 20-22. Test taking can be stressful, so here are some helpful tips to make it easier. Start by preparing your backpack the night before to save time in the morning and ensure that no test supplies will be forgotten at home. It is also essential to get at least six to eight hours of sleep.

 

On the morning of the exam, it is crucial to eat a good breakfast to gain energy. According to cnn.com reporter, Tiffany Barrett, eggs, yogurt, whole-grain cereal, or juices are a good source of energy. If there’s some time to spare use it to review. Now, this does not mean that everything can be learned in 20 minutes, it simply means spend time brushing up on the information.

After the morning routine comes the most nerve racking part — actually taking the test. Once the tests have been passed out, just take a deep breath and read the directions carefully. Managing time will be the most important part of the test taking. Begin by answering all the easy questions, that way test takers will not run out of time and, if a question is too difficult to answer, do not leave it blank. There’s a 25% chance of getting it right just by guessing. After completing the test, and if there is time left over, review the exam and make sure that no questions were missed.
