“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” At least it was on November 29 between Sixth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The Las Olas Christmas celebration has been bringing Christmas spirit to sunny South Florida for 54 years. Throughout the streets, there were plenty of food booths. The performers appeared on three stages, one for local school choirs, one for church choirs and another for other performers. The festival also featured an ice skating rink, a slope down which to sled and lots of opportunities to take photos with Santa Claus.
Once again, this year’s event included the Saint Thomas Aquinas’ (STA) choir, chorale, and jazz ensemble. STA has taken part in this celebration for many years now. In a phone interview with Ms. Amber Van Buren, Executive Director of the Las Olas Boulevard Association, she expressed appreciation for STA’s role, “We love community ties and bringing the community together and Saint Thomas Aquinas High School has been a huge part of the experience this year, and in years past.”
This event draws thousands of people, including this year’s celebrity attendee Kenny Chesney. Year after year, the sponsors up-the-ante and strive to make the event the best it can possibly be. The festivities were made possible through contributions from sponsors such as Anidjar & Levine P.A., Downtown Jewish Center Chabad, and the Museum of Discovery and Science. Thanks to these supporters, as well as the association of Las Olas, the Christmas celebration was not only made possible, but it was a huge success. Once again the organizers and participants of the Las Olas Christmas celebration brought the spirit of the season to South Florida.
