The St. Thomas Aquinas High School (STA) community is bursting with Raider pride after finding out that senior Jessica Costa won a Silver Key Award in the Poetry division of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards! The awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Writers & Artists, a nonprofit organization that aims to “ Identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.” According to the organization’s official website, artandwriting.org, winners of the Silver Key Award are those of “stand-out works submitted to local programs that demonstrate exceptional ability.” Costa was able to impress the judges and win the award by submitting her piece, titled “Dear Mr. President.”

This was not the first time that Jessica was recognized for her talent, by The Alliance. She said, “In the seventh grade, I participated in this contest, and I also won the Silver Key from when I participated all those years ago, so I figured, let’s try one more time.” This time around, Jessica drew inspiration from today’s contentious political climate. Winning as a senior made Jessica feel “elated that I could accomplish such a feat, not only once, but twice in my life.” The Raider community congratulates Jessica and looks forward to supporting her future endeavors!
