Summer couldn’t be more loved by anyone, than by high school students. Some Saint Thomas Aquinas (STA) students took advantage of the recent three-month break, from classes and homework, by traveling around the world. Europe, was the hot destination. Many STA Raiders told these reporters that they traveled to the continent to experience unique environments and cultures. A few of them shared their encounters with Raider Review.

STA junior, Olivia Tolerico traveled to Ibiza, Spain, where she visited many beaches. She told Raider Review that Cala Tarida was her favorite. This beach is the longest and widest beach of fine white sand on Ibiza’s west coast. For those interested in exploring Ibiza, Olivia suggests that they, “.. go to all the beaches on the island because they’re all different, but they’re all really pretty.”

Camila Monsalve, STA senior, also traveled to Spain, where she visited the cities of Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. She said that her favorite place to visit was Madrid, as she had the opportunity to tour the famous Santiago Bernabéu stadium located near the Paseo de Castellana in Calle Concha Espina. This is the home stadium of the team, Real Madrid, officially recognised by FIFA as the best football team of the 20th Century. Camila commented “It was really cool when we got to walk all over the field and we got to do [green screen] pictures with all the players, it was super nice.” She really enjoyed experiencing this novel culture and the home-cooked style food that was served there.

STA freshman Zachary Tolerico traveled with his soccer team all the way to Lisbon, Portugal, where they stayed for a total of ten days. There he competed in a tournament in Castelo de Vide. Zach and his team played against five teams from around the world. He also noted that “The food was amazing. It is so different from the restaurants we have in America. It tasted so fresh, even the fast food.”

The first quarter just ended, and Raiders are already looking forward to the return of summer. With spirits of exploration and hope for once-in-a-lifetime experiences, everyone is just itching to get back out there. There isn’t anywhere better to encounter the delights of traveling than in Europe, where everything from food to language seems amazing to the tourists who visit.
