In a book series written by Marie Lu, two fifteen year olds, June Iparis and Day, meet unexpectedly and set off a wild chain of events. In a race against time to save his brother, Day and June meet many obstacles and unexpected allies who are a great help to them on their quest. Although Day and June become very close, their friendship differs throughout the story. Nova High School junior Zakary Majer told Raider Review that “[June and Day’s] relationship is crazy at first.” He went on to say that, “There’s not one book that stood out more than the other.”

is an inspirational tale of events that treats the reader to a really well written book. On a journey to find his sister, Peter is given  unexpected instructions from a fortune teller who tells him to follow an elephant! Is his sister alive? This book is unlike any other. The way each thought is expressed is truly unique. The novel shows that experiencing struggle can lead to some of the greatest accomplishments.

This book is worthy of being read at least once in someone’s lifetime. It is simplistic yet full of different emotions all at the same time. This book is captivating because the emotion of each character flows from the page into the reader’s mind and suddenly… the book cannot be put down.

The Magician’s Elephant was released on September 8, 2009, and was beautifully illustrated by Yoko Tanaka. It is categorized as an adventure, childrens’, and fiction book, as well as a fantastic work of art.
