Are your school pants getting too tight? Did you eat too many Aloma cookies at lunch? Join the STA Runners Club! This club is a great way to exercise and stay in shape. It is as simple as going out onto the field and burning calories. This social outlet can de-stress and clear your mind and is a great way to begin your evening full of homework. Additionally, it’s fun to get together with friends and run without the pressure of competition.
According to club moderator, Mr. Orestes Martinez, “You start at a certain point and become fitter as you go along.” His goal for the club is to start off at a slow pace and reach a goal of a monthly 5k-run (3.1 miles). All Staff members and students at STA are welcome to join at any time during the school year. The meeting time will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 – 4:00, starting on October 1, 2019. Most of the workouts will be completed on the field next to the Bienes Center. On special occasions they will take place on stairways or in the parking garage for more effective training.
Registration is open now. Any STA students interested should hurry and sign up because this will give the participants more time to train for the monthly races. To become part of the team, add your name to the list in Mr. Martinez’s office in the Guidance Department.
Anyone who is interested can show up at the Bienes Center field wearing the appropriate workout clothing. Hydration is key, especially in the current Florida heat. Make sure to bring a water bottle to every club meet. Hats, and any gear that will help you to cool down, are strongly advised by Mr. Martinez. Having these materials will help to make it a happy and healthy experience. Let’s run, Raiders run!
