Ukraine is a country located in the southeastern region of Europe. Although commonly regarded for its beautiful landmarks and sights, recent political unrest and conflict with Russia has brought the country into the forefront for less attractive reasons.
Ukraine and Russia have been very tense for years, but the situation escalated when Russia waged a presumably unprovoked attack on civilians which occurred in April of 2022. It is said by many resources that the attack was unprovoked, but others say that it was due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
For a while, Ukraine has been begging their allies to send tanks, as they are in desperate need. Many of the nations had a meeting to discuss what they should do. Apparently Britain had already sent some of their machinery to accompany Ukraine in battle and help defend them from the ongoing danger from the Russian troops. They all have been “pushing” Germany to send tanks to Ukraine but Germany remained reluctant to offer their tanks. The U.S. sent 2.5 million dollars in military weapons and other useful materials to help defend Ukraine from Russia’s deadly attempts to take control. According to Markarova, [the military weapons are] “very much needed now, so that our brave defenders can be protected. So we can maneuver, we can fire and actually we can go back on the counteroffensive and we can preempt these future attacks Russia is actually planning to expand during the spring.”
