
STA Summer Institute is a summer program where students can take all types of courses for a .5 high school credit. The courses are offered to 9th-12th grade students and rising 7th and 8th graders who would like to earn some early high school credits. It runs June 12-28, 2023, The hours are 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Application deadline is May 12, 2023, so hurry up! The tuition fee is $500 which includes instructional materials. Here are some of the courses you can take:
The Mock Trial Experience- This course offers students a twelve-day, hands-on trial experience through preparation and presentation of legal cases. Cases may be civil or criminal and concern issues that are both relevant and challenging. Students are split into two teams and are given the opportunity to present their side of the cases. Students will learn many skills including oral presentation skills, critical thinking skills, crafting persuasive arguments, and more. The course will conclude with a mini tournament judged by local legal professionals.
Personal Financial Literacy Honors- This course will help students learn financial responsibility, financial decision making, and critical money management skills. This course allows students to develop skills and understand how to manage their finances, spending, and credit. Students will be given opportunities through activities and workshops on saving and investing responsibly. Students will also have the opportunity to discover stock investing through active participation in online simulation as one of the avenues of investing.
Pre–Engineering Honors- In this course students will be introduced to the many different fields of engineering. Students will work hands-on with exhilarating technology like customizable RC cars, and learn how to use cutting edge 3D design software to design solutions. This course will help students develop problem solving skills while working individually and in teams. They will also learn how to create solutions to problems, properly document the entire process, and communicate their results.
