Saturday, November 12, 2022, Alex Pereira knocked out Israel Adesanya within 2 minutes and 1 second of round 5 becoming the UFC middleweight champion. After the fight, Pereira’s son mocked Adesanya when he fell to the ground. Adesanya wanted his revenge. 5 months later the two rivals were set to fight again. The fight took place at the FTX arena in Miami, Florida on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Over 19,000 people attended this event, producing just under 12 million dollars in revenue.
Adesanya states that he used the first fight as motivation to come back and reclaim his title, which he did. Israel Adesanya knocked out Alex Pereira with a powerful right hook within 4 minutes and 21 seconds of round 2. Adesanya then looked into the crowd to find Pereira’s son. Adesanya found Pereira’s son and pointed at him then dropped to the floor to mimic his father getting knocked out. Adesanya said he did this because he was “petty” and wanted to get back at his son. Some notable celebrities that attended this event were Mike Tyson, Kid Rock, Donald Trump, Joe Burrow, and Odell Beckham Jr.
