Every year, the first Wednesday of February is known in the sports world as National Signing Day. It’s the day when high school athletes nationwide sign a Letter of Intent with the college of their choice. This year’s National Signing Day was held on Wednesday February 1. Fifty-two of St. Thomas Aquinas High School’s (STA) top senior athletes signed with colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Udonis Haslem, power forward for the Miami Heat and Raider parent, spoke exclusively with Raider Review reporter Bradley Cusnier. He described how he felt about his son Kedonis Haslem signing to the University of Toledo, Ohio. Mr. Haslem said, “It is a major accomplishment to watch my son achieve the goal that he has had since he was 8 years old. Being a part of the journey and seeing how hard he worked to reach his goal, I am just filled with pure joy for his accomplishments.”
Brook Bauer, volleyball commit at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, expressed her appreciation for her school. “STA helped me reach my goal through building my athletic game during varsity volleyball practices and providing amazing teachers and leaders to help me to create a consistent work ethic in the classroom and in life.”
Isaiah Perry, a star on the athletic field and in the classroom, shared his views about how STA helped him to receive academic scholarships. He said “STA baseball molded me as a player and helped me shape up my raw abilities. Also the excellence in the classrooms helped me receive some academic scholarship as well.”
Florida State University’s newest soccer acquisition Isabella Dorosy told Raider Review that, “St. Thomas has helped me reach my goal by guiding me to understand the discipline it takes to be fully committed to something if you want to succeed.”
Sophia Reineke, who will be attending Boston College in the Fall, shared, “I’m looking forward to attending Boston College for many reasons, but what I am most excited about is being a part of the Sailing Team because I believe that their structured and disciplined program will help me achieve my Olympic dream.”
STA had six more commits than last year, which supports the fact that both the school and the students are always striving to be the best. A list of all the signers is available on the STA website – List of Signers.
