From April 5 to 7, the Bienes Center for the Arts hosted St. Thomas Aquinas High School’s (STA) annual Spring Juried Art Show. Since 2003, STA’s Spring Art Show has been featuring students’ finest works of art.
This year’s Spring Art Show was organized by STA art teacher Mrs. Pamela Keen, who took the opportunity to invite local painter and sculptor Mrs. Barbara Dix to adjudicate the entries. The Raider Review spoke exclusively with Mrs. Dix, who was taken with “… the sincerity of the students’ works. They are not trying to second guess the judge. Also the variety and the skill within that variety is amazing. The show is spontaneous and original, and I love that.”
From pottery to photography, students expressed their thoughts and ideas while following the requirements of their specific assignments. English teacher Mrs. O’Mara told the Raider Review, “I am very impressed and love it. I like the fact that so many different types of art are showcased and that they are all grouped together by media.”
The Spring Art Show certainly did not fail to amaze visitors, STA students, and faculty. The Raider community cannot wait to see what is in store for next year’s show.
