The first video game was Ping Pong, made by physicist William Higinbotham, in October 1958. Video games have now been around for 64 years. Today, video games make up $100 billion of the global industry. Throughout those 64 years, people have invested in a variety of gaming consoles like Sony Playstation Classic, NES Classic Mini, Gameboy Color and many more. Today’s consoles include the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the Nintendo Switch Lite. According to Businesinsider.com, the best next-gen console is the PS5, but there are other alternatives if you cannot purchase one of the new consoles.
There is debate about whether the PS5 is the best console. The Playstation 5 had the most successful console launch in US history. The PS5 recorded the highest sales revenue and the most individual consoles for any video game console at launch, beating the world record previously held by the PS4. According to reuters.com Sony said it sold more PlayStation 5 consoles in the first 12 hours of pre-orders than it sold PS4 consoles in 12 weeks. The PS5 has an incredibly fast solid state drive, industry-leading graphics and a unique DualSense controller. The Playstation’s library of blockbuster exclusive games, 3D audio, and DualSense controller make it the best console for most gamers.
The PS5 also outclasses the Nintendo Switch as a home entertainment device. This is thanks to its 4k Blu-Ray playback and support for most streaming apps. However, those planning to use the console as a streaming media center should consider the Xbox Series X. The Xbox Series X offers movies and shows, unlike PlayStation. However, if you are looking for something more portable you should consider consoles like the Nintendo Switch OLED. It offers great value for a portable console, boasting TV support and a huge library to satisfy gamers of all types. Those seeking a more affordable option should consider the Xbox Series S which retails at $299.99. That is a great price for current hardware, support for Xbox Game Pass backwards compatible with thousands of Xbox one and Xbox 360 games. Although it is the best budget console, there are some cons to it. There is no disc drive for games so you’re only able to play and buy digital games. It only has 364GB and can only be expanded with a special storage card from Seagate. The Xbox Series S doesn’t have the same level of graphics performance as the PS5 or the Xbox Series X so it’s best to save for those consoles if you’re worried that you won’t have the best visual quality. The xbox Series S does support 4K resolution playback though, unlike the Switch.
Gaming consoles have come a long way over the last 64 years. Although reviews say that the PS5 is the best overall gaming console, it may not be the one everyone is looking for. There are many options and a console to fit everyone’s desires and needs.
