Homecoming events often influence fashion trends and how people dress for the first dance of the school year. It can be difficult to keep up with every fad that passes your way, as the internet is the current home and birthplace of most fashion trends. These trends can be fun and endearing, although at times may create unfair conditions due to increased demand to fit in. Regardless of your means, your Homecoming experience this year can still be exciting and fashionable without breaking the bank.. Here are the latest fashion trends for Homecoming 2022!
Lucy in the Sky
Lucy in the Sky is an online shopping brand that sells dresses and accessories for almost every occasion. Its popularity has skyrocketed this year as new and modern creations have caught the eye of concert-goers, partiers, and those attending special events, such as Homecoming. They have endless styles from gorgeous modern pieces to simple and cute dresses. Lucy in the Sky has a dress for every style and event.
Shine and Glow
This year has been packed full of fun and bright neon colors, especially hot pink. These colors allow you to stand out in a crowd and experiment with different statement pieces. Another recovered, long lost trend is sequins. Seen as tacky in the past few years, sequin dresses are making a comeback with muted and nude colors, as well as black. These dresses complement nicely with simple and elegant accessories.
Bodycon
Simple muted or dark colored bodycon dresses are always in style, dependable, and classy. Bodycon dresses are tight dresses often made from soft and stretchy material that cling to your skin in a way that shows your silhouette. These dresses are very comfortable because of the material they’re made from, and their simplicity allows for bright and flashy accessories to pull the look together.
Corset Tops
The corset went out of fashion in the early 1920’s, but it’s making a modern resurrection through simplified and stylized versions sewn into outerwear. This look is often characterized by a V shape going down into the skirt of the dress from the top piece, which has ribbed inserts. These dresses often have a simple color to match the revived design, with A-Line straps to pull together the piece and create a simple neckline.
Fast Fashion Warning!
While many people appreciate cheap and fast shipping options, the companies that manufacture these clothes often use unethical ways of production. According to DU Clarion, “Fast-fashion factories are also replete with child labor, unlivable wages and worker exploitation. In 2021 alone, SHEIN factory workers reported working 75-hour workweeks. Eighty-five percent of garment workers internationally do not make minimum wage, bringing home 2-6 cents per article of clothing”. This gross misconduct and abuse of workers rights sets a precedent for other fast-fashion companies to compete with SHEIN’s mass production of products with equally terrible working conditions. Additionally, these companies produce an immense amount of carbon emissions, contributing greatly to global warming’s ever looming effect. It is possible to find ethical online shops, but it’s important to be careful where you purchase your clothing from and do your research on that company.
