Saint Thomas Aquinas High School has always held a reputation for obtaining state and national championship titles. The track and field team is no exception, having won state titles over the past few years under head coach Alex Armenteros. Since preparing to dominate on the track and field is no small feat, players revealed how they are gearing up for another championship season.
Hannah Taylor transferred to STA as a senior and is looking forward to new experiences as a Raider. She said, “One of the things that I’m really excited for this year is to go to states not only to win the school another state title, but also because it promotes team bonding.” She elaborated that the time spent with her teammates is what gives her motivation to compete. This year’s track team has been devoted to improving their previous personal records. Hannnah told us, “Last year, my PR was 24.42 seconds in the 200 meter dash but this year I’m trying to get it to 23.8.” To achieve this goal, Hannah revealed that she has been attending every practice and has minimized distractions on and off the track.
This year’s track team is confident that they will dominate at states this year and will not be backing down from the challenges that will come their way!
Mid-distance runner and junior Christopher Adams III, shared his main goal for this track season: “After taking home the state title last year, my main goal for this year is to win states again.” Chris also said that winning another state championship is important to him because, prior to last year, the boys team hadn’t won states since 2014. Christopher hopes they won’t have to wait another eight years to take states again.
